The Peralta Community College District is a two-year college system, dedicated to providing comprehensive educational and community services to the communities it serves, including the cities of Albany, Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont California. The District enrolls over 25,000 students in a broad range of transfer and occupational curricula. The colleges in the District include College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College and Berkeley City College, which operate under the governance of a seven- member Board of Trustees and are administered by a Chancellor/Superintendent.

Job Description Summary

Under the general direction of the Deputy Chancellor or their designee, the Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Services provides leadership and administrative oversight for academic, student support services, international education, and workforce and economic development in support of the District’s mission.

Duties & Responsibilities

 Serves as Chief Academic Officer of the District and coordinates the educational services by assisting the colleges in the coordination of curriculum planning and development, including courses and programs. Ensures compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, and Board policies.

 Serves as Chief Student Services Officer of the District by assisting the colleges with administering compliance with all student services programs, laws, regulations, and Board policies.

 Develops and manages all budgets under the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Services.

 Provides district-level coordination and oversight for the educational master planning and strategic planning processes and implementation.

 Provides district-level coordination and oversight for program review and accreditation.

 Provides district-level oversight for economic and workforce development, including contract education and grants.

 Provides district-level coordination of distance education and instructional technology to ensure systems support effective teaching and learning.

 Provides administrative oversight for the District’s Tenure Review and faculty evaluation processes.

 Initiates and maintains effective partnerships and linkages with K-12, business, industry, governmental agencies and other postsecondary institutions to enhance the acquisition, access and sharing of resources to support student success.

 Supervises the completion of reports as necessary or appropriate for federal, state and local agencies including various reports and data submissions required by the State Chancellor’s Office for California Community Colleges.

 Provides District leadership and serves as a resource for admissions and records and financial aid in order to ensure the delivery of quality services, compliance with applicable governmental requirements, the achievement of efficiencies and ongoing collaboration among the colleges.

 Train, supervise, evaluate and direct the work of personnel as assigned; participate in selection and hiring processes; support equity, diversity and inclusion in the hiring process.

 Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chancellor.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a discipline represented within the Peralta Community College District curriculum, and five (5) years of successful full-time experience in administrative or management positions in education.

2. Knowledge of California and federal laws and regulations for community colleges.

3. Applicant must have demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students

Desirable Qualifications

 Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree from an accredited college or university
 Postsecondary teaching experience, preferably in community colleges
