Job Summary
The positions are located within the UWM Residence Halls. Under direction of Associate Sous Chefs, these position function as one of the Chefs for Sandburg Cafe or Cambridge Cafe. The incumbent will be responsible for the timely preparation of hot and cold food for sales throughout various dining locations and catered events for Retail Services. They will personally prepare and lead/train other employees in the preparation of hot and cold food according to established recipes. Incumbent will meet production schedules while following safe food handling practices. They will also recommend and prepare special items for catered events and tastings and recommend changes in menus and recipes as necessary. These positions will be assigned schedules as necessary to cover the needs of the department and schedules may vary from week to week depending on the events scheduled.

The Department of Retail Services is hiring to fill four Cook positions. Two will be full time, full year and two will be full time, seasonal positions. The break for seasonal employees will vary from year to year but generally runs from the end of December through mid January and the end of May though mid August. Dates and times are subject to change based on needs.

Nights and weekends availability is needed if there are special events and based on operational need. Position also requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

The minimum hourly rate is $17/hour; Individual candidates' experience, education and qualifications will determine the appropriate starting rate at the time of hire.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this vacancy must:
At least one year of experience preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment
Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified candidates will also have:
Demonstrated experience preparing hot and cold food in large quantities in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience as a supervisor or lead worker in a food service environment (training, assigning tasks, scheduling, etc. of subordinate staff)
Demonstrated experience preparing various cuisines (ethnic, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc.)
Demonstrated experience working in a higher education setting. Further experience working in a food or similar areas within a higher education setting is strongly preferred
Associate's Degree or higher in Culinary Arts, or related field
ServSafe Sanitation Certification or equivalent
