Job Details

Emporia State University’s Department of Communication and Theatre invites applications for a non-tenure track instructor, 3-year position, to begin in August 2023. Ph.D. preferred; ABD and/or a master’s degree with professional experience considered.

The department offers an undergraduate major in communication and seeks applicants with interests in teaching upper-level courses primarily in Communication, Emerging Technology, and Society. Special consideration will be given to applicants with teaching and/or research or creative work in one or more of the following areas: social media strategy and analytics, influencing, digital video, user experience, artificial intelligence, algorithms, virtual reality, or gaming/interactive media. Knowledge of software applications relevant to the position (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud products) is preferred. The successful applicant may have the opportunity to design new undergraduate courses in these areas as well as contribute to a new certificate related to social media influencing.

The successful applicant will also be expected to teach within the department’s general education offerings. The normal teaching load for this position is twelve hours per semester, and other relevant duties include participating in department and university service. Excellent teaching skills are required.

The Communication program prides itself on teaching and practicing ethical, civically engaged, and collaborative communication. Program faculty members promote opportunities for students to put their skills into practice through community engagement and other high-impact learning experiences. The Communication program also has a record of collaboration with university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programs, including curriculum within the Ethnic and Gender Studies program. The program strongly encourages efforts promoting inclusive and equitable pedagogy and research. We welcome candidates who will contribute to and strengthen these efforts.
