Job Description

The Senior Grant Writer (SGW), Economic and Community Development (ECD) is responsible for working with partners across the university and community to establish a pipeline of funding opportunities, writing grant proposals, and writing reports to support the University of Missouri – St. Louis’ economic and community impact. The SGW is also responsible for supporting the ECD unit’s communications needs and content creation across web and other collateral. The Senior Grant Writer is a full-time position and reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Economic and Community Development in the Office of Economic and Community Development.

The University is in the midst of major transformative growth on and off campus as it reimagines its academic core on its North campus and redesigns its South Campus as a hub of health innovation, business, and workforce development supporting the North County and regional community. The Senior Grant Writer, ECD will work as part of a team to strategically amplify and strengthen the university by writing proposals to generate external funding increasing the institution’s economic and community impact on the local, regional and state level.

The SGW will identify, prepare and develop proposals working with Research Development, Corporate and Foundation Relations and Sponsored Programs Administration units. The proposals will support the institutions work as an Anchor Institution focusing on initiatives in economic development, health, education, and community building. Grant submissions will require working across operational and academic departments and colleges. This position will also aid the ECD unit in developing and keeping current content for the unit’s website. The SGW will be an outstanding collaborator, well organized, detail oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills and integrity, characterized by quality communication skills, transparency, trust, authenticity, and drive.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Research, write, and aid submission of proposals for funding, working effectively with a team and across departments
  • Work with Research Development and Corporate and Foundation Relations to research and recommend new funding sources
  • Follow all requirements and deadlines for grant applications
  • Integrates content from multiple authors; edits and polishes to ensure unified voice and structure
  • Maintain a grants calendar to monitor progress with sponsor deadlines
  • Communicate with potential funders as needed for submissions and reporting
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion in financial and community matters
  • Develop and maintain ECD unit communications and marketing material for web, newsletter, and other informational resources, working with Marketing and Communications as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $48,900-$55,000 Annually

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong track record of writing and developing proposals and generating external funding in a university or nonprofit setting
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships with faculty and staff and to work collaboratively as a part of a team
