Position Purpose
The purpose of this position to help build and apply energy and industrial system planning models to explore local, regional, and national pathways for decarbonization, with a focus on multi-objective optimization, spatial scaling, infrastructure network simulation, and community-engaged model development. The postdoctoral scholar position is in the Sustainable Transitions Lab – an interdisciplinary, computational lab focused on just energy transition planning – at Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering.

PhD plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- PhD in relevant fields including energy systems engineering, environmental planning, operations research, geography, energy resources, computer science, public policy, or environmental engineering.
- At least four years of relevant research experience.
- Candidates with additional non-academic work experience, with nontraditional academic backgrounds, and/or from members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in science and engineering are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated research ability and vison, excellent written and spoken communication skills, and comfort working both collaboratively and independently.
- Expertise in optimization methods and data science and familiarity with algebraic modeling languages (e.g., Python/Pyomo, GAMS ).
- Expertise in geospatial analysis and familiarity with geographic information systems software (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Familiarity with modeling environmental and socioeconomic impacts.
- Familiarity with macro-energy systems models.
