Position Purpose

We are seeking applicants with laboratory experience who will perform independent experiments relating to microbes that cause lung infections. The position will involve interacting with other research groups through a role in the Translational Research Core that analyzes clinical samples relevant to cystic fibrosis-related infections. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who seek laboratory experience for two or more years prior to applying for graduate or medical school, but also provides experience relevant to biotech. Opportunities for professional development are available.

• Competence in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments
• Ability to work independently with good judgment and good organizational and time management skills.
• Willingness to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
• Knowledge of computers and software applications

Key Accountabilities

Description

· Conducts laboratory experiments, utilizing a range of established methods, procedures, and techniques with necessary preparations, observes experiment, records observations and maintains laboratory notebook. 80%
· Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as graphs, charts, tables, statistical summaries, etc. 5%
· Laboratory maintenance; orders lab supplies, monitors laboratory equipment and instrument performance, obtains maintenance and repair as necessary. 5%
· Manage inventory of clinical isolates from samples, entering data into computerized databases, shipping strains. 5%
