The School of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2023. This is a full-time, tenured/tenure-track position with specialization in health administration. Applicants must have a doctoral degree ((including PhD, DrPH, DHA and equivalent terminal degrees) in Health Administration, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Health Systems Management, Health Informatics, or another relevant field by the date of appointment of August 1, 2023. Applications must demonstrate evidence of educational excellence and leadership potential for senior associate professor applicants. The new faculty member will teach courses for students in the Master of Health Administration and the Master of Public Administration,  supervise master’s students, and contribute to core, required graduate courses. Teaching areas of interest include healthcare quality, strategic management, operations management, healthcare management, leadership, and/or healthcare marketing. There will also be the opportunity to teach at the undergraduate level.  

The MHA program, the newest program in the School of Public Administration, is an associate member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). The MPA program in the School, is one of the oldest NASPAA-accredited programs in the nation. The University of New Mexico is a Carnegie Doctoral Very High Research Activity Institution and a Hispanic-Serving Institution, with over 33,000 students on the main and branch campuses. The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque is an ethnically diverse city with a rich culture and a location offering opportunities for outdoor adventure. The university is located within minutes of the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges, which offer great opportunities for hiking, biking, rock climbing, and skiing. Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, is located approximately fifty miles south of Santa Fe, the state capital.

Minimum

  • PhD, DrPH, DHA (and equivalent terminal degrees) from a nationally accredited university in Health Administration, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Health Informatics, or another relevant field by the date of appointment of August 1, 2023.
  • Evidence of specialization in healthcare administration with a particular focus on healthcare quality, strategic management, operations management, and/or healthcare marketing.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated strength in teaching at the graduate level
  • Demonstrated potential to develop research programs and publications
  • Demonstrated strength in teaching areas such as healthcare quality, strategic management, operations management, leadership and/or healthcare marketing program
  • Demonstrated potential to pursue a productive research agenda in the fields of healthcare management, quality, and/or leadership
  • Ability to mentor diverse students at the graduate level
  • Ability to contribute to other core curriculum areas in the School
  • Skilled at bridging theory/academic research to applied contexts
  • Demonstrated expertise in leadership, teaching, mentorship, and research
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, curricular innovation, and student success
  • Ability or potential for obtaining extramural funding to support research and teaching
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
