The Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction (https://engineering.unl.edu/durhamschool) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice position in the area of Construction Management and Engineering beginning no later than August 2023. This is a non-tenure track, 9-month faculty appointment (paid over 12 months). The Durham School is co-located in two cities, Lincoln and Omaha, which are approximately 50 miles apart. With approximately 30 faculty, 500 undergraduate students, and 100 graduate students, the Durham School is the only endowed academic unit ($30 million) in the UNL College of Engineering and has strong ties with several world-class construction firms, including Black & Veatch, Hensel Phelps, JE Dunn, Kiewit, McCarthy, Turner, Weitz, Whiting-Turner, and many others. Currently, the UNL College of Engineering is building a new $115 million teaching facility named Kiewit Hall that will serve as engineering’s academic hub and house the school’s construction programs in Lincoln beginning in spring 2024 (https://durhamschool.link/KiewitHall).
Based in either Lincoln or Omaha and focused on instructional programs, the person in this position is expected to teach undergraduate courses in the Durham School on either campus; actively participate in service, outreach, and community engagement; and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement with industry.
Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in construction management, construction engineering, or a related field. They will have a strong record of exemplary accomplishments in the construction industry and not fewer than ten years of construction experience in a progressive series of responsible positions. Candidates must also demonstrate readiness to advance inclusive excellence and diversity, as these are core values in our school, college, and university.
Preference will be given to candidates with at least five (5) years of experience in the United States construction industry and who have previous teaching experience through formal classroom settings or in professional industry settings (internal company training courses, professional short courses, etc.).
