NKU is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access/Affirmative Action institution. We encourage applications by members of diverse groups and by persons with a demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and experience in achieving goals relative to inclusive excellence. Our vision is that NKU will be nationally recognized for being a student-ready, regionally engaged university that empowers diverse learners for economic and social mobility. Purpose of Position

A post-doctoral position is now available in the new Molecular Neurobiology of Behavior Laboratory at Northern Kentucky University ( NKU ). Research is focused on using a translational approach in mouse models and human biosamples to study the behavioral and molecular consequences of prenatal exposure to opioid drugs. The post-doctoral fellow will work on projects that improve how we model prenatal opioid exposure in mice, along with measuring social and cognitive behavior as primary outcomes of exposure. To understand the neurobiology of these behaviors, projects will examine brain gene expression patterns and use immunohistochemical approaches to assess brain tissue. The opportunity for work in the human population will be conducted via collaborations with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center through the Division of Neonatology in the Perinatal Institute.

Primary Responsibilities

The post-doctoral fellow is encouraged to develop research studies and to contribute to ongoing projects by writing manuscripts and overseeing the work of undergraduate research assistants. While not required, the post-doctoral fellow may also have the opportunity to teach one course per semester. The position will last 2-3 years but may last longer depending on the status of the principal investigator’s grant funding.
