Position Summary
The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications for a Chair at the level of Full Professor beginning August 2023 with chair duties starting in 2024. We are looking for an established scholar with a proven record of collaborative departmental leadership in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies departments/programs, and with experience mentoring graduate students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Candidates should have a demonstrated record of scholarship, teaching and administration in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. The position is open in terms of research area. We especially welcome candidates whose work strengthens the department’s strong global/transnational focus and/or whose research addresses one or more of the following: race, ethnicity, indigeneity; and/or is situated within queer studies or trans studies. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to teach core courses in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department particularly values the ability to mentor students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
Candidates should submit a CV, cover letter, statement of research, statement of teaching philosophy that addresses teaching and mentoring a diverse student body, statement of leadership philosophy, and a list of at least three references. Review of applications will begin February 15, 2023, and the position will remain open until filled.

The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies (GGSs) s the interdisciplinary home for research and teaching on feminism, women, gender, and sexuality at UB. Celebrating over 50 years at UB, we attract students locally, nationally and internationally. We are committed to feminist theory and gender analyses that explore the complex intersections of gender, race, class, sexuality, and disability, and to critical analyses directed towards social change and the creation of more just societies. The department is currently composed of 9 full-line faculty and 10 partial-line faculty across the College of Arts and Sciences. The department has a dynamic undergraduate program and growing MA and PhD programs.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or in a related interdisciplinary field.
- Record of achievement in scholarship appropriate for the rank of full Professor.
- Strong record of research funding, fellowships, and professional recognition.
- Previous chair experience.
