Director of Civic Initiatives
The Director of Civic Initiatives will strategize, plan, direct, team-build, and manage the outreach and learning opportunities initiated by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation’s DeVos Learning Center.
The Director of Civic Initiatives will have a passion for and experience in:
• Advancing knowledge of history, civics, government, public service, and leadership
• Traditional and non-traditional education
• Strong team player with the ability to foster collaborations with groups around the country
• Strong communication skills – oral, written, and digital
• Ability to initiate and oversee outreach to historically marginalized communities
• Familiarity with interactive museum experiences and how to expand and/or connect them to learning beyond the museum visit itself
• Ability to oversee the development of age-appropriate curricula
• Ability to improve the learning experiences of visitors
• Ability to develop mentoring programs
• Ability to oversee the development of new technologies for learning
• Social/digital media platform development and engagement
• Experience in leading a team and engaging staff and volunteers
• Evaluating initiatives through metrics and other measures of success
Additional Qualifications:
• 7+ years as a proven leader with management experience:
o Hire, direct, and train DeVos Learning Center staff and Foundation staff and volunteers
o Showcase best practices in outreach and marketing with proven results
o Strong communicator, willing to engage with other institutions
o Ability to model a servant leadership style among staff and volunteers
o Encourage volunteer support at all levels
o Responsibility for the development and management of the annual budget
• Strong, professional etiquette
