The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in environmental science. The position is a 9-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2023.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in geography, meteorology/climatology, and/or environmental health, along with additional courses as required for a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Proficiencies in GIS and remote sensing applications are preferable.

Preference will be given to candidates who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission. Successful candidates will also be expected to develop an independent research program involving undergraduate students.

This position is a full-time, 9-month commitment at the assistant professor level and with the potential for summer teaching and research support. The successful candidate will have a 4-4 teaching (or the equivalency taking laboratory contact hours into consideration). In addition to teaching load and research, duties include serving the department and college on various committees; advising students; and assisting the department chair with assessment and other duties as needed.

Successful candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; should have the demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level; must have a Ph.D. (ABD candidates will be considered but must have the Ph.D. completed by the date of appointment) in environmental science or a related field.
