Job Description:

The Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank, to begin in Fall 2023. We seek exceptional candidates with strong research track in Data Science.  Appointment will be with the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.  The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching, research, and service, and must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Exceptional candidates may request tenure upon appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

The selected candidate will have:

  1. Earned or will receive by May 2023 a doctoral degree in systems engineering, engineering management, industrial engineering, or a closely related discipline with at least one degree in an engineering discipline;
  2. Experience teaching systems engineering, engineering management, or related courses in an academic setting;
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of Data Science tools and techniques as they apply to Systems Engineering and Engineering Management applications;
  4. A proven capability to secure, and work, on funded research. It is expected that the candidate will be able to transfer existing projects, if possible, upon appointment;
  5. A record of publications in top tier journals and conference proceeding is expected; and
  6. Demonstrate a passion for student success, recruitment, and retention, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates should have substantial expertise, experience with recognized  scholarship and research in Data Science. The candidate should also have a clear plan for transferring existing projects, if possible, and how they will acquire and sustain a new stream of externally funded research projects
