Assistant/Associate Term Professor of Music Theory and Aural Skills

 

 

 

The Dewberry School of Music of George Mason University, one of the most diverse institutions in American higher education, seeks a dynamic Assistant or Associate Term Professor to serve in the area of Music Theory and Aural Skills, starting August 2023. This is a full-time, annually renewable Term 9-month position, with the possibility for promotion and multi-year contracts on subsequent term appointments. Salary is commensurate with experience. Responsibilities:

 

Teach 4 courses each semester, which includes music theory and aural skills courses at the undergraduate level and an online music theory course at the graduate level. The Dewberry School of Music comprises undergraduate students studying performance, music technology, music education, composition, and jazz studies and graduate students in performance, conducting, music education, jazz studies, and composition. The successful candidate will engage in the academic and artistic life of the Dewberry School, the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), and the University.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Completed doctorate in music by August 16, 2023; Successful university teaching experience in theory and aural skills; Demonstrated commitment to music theory and aural skills pedagogy; and Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in teaching.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to mentor graduate student research; Strong interest in and passion for aural skills pedagogy; and Expertise in traditionally underrepresented global musics.
