Position description

The https://www.ece.ucsd.edu/ seeks faculty candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor whose research, teaching, and service will advance scholarship and institutional solutions for designing more just and equitable systems and structures. This search is part of a https://www.design-just-futures.ucsd.edu/. The faculty hired will advance UC San Diego's commitment to the inclusion of Indigenous, Black, and migrant communities, anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and social justice. Faculty hired under this Initiative will join the UC San Diego campus, the UC San Diego https://designlab.ucsd.edu/, and the https://ifi.ucsd.edu/ to forge a new paradigm of engagement and collaboration that draws on the geographic, academic, institutional, and cultural strengths of our tri-national region across Southern California, Baja California, and the Kumeyaay region. As part of their teaching portfolio, faculty hired under Designing Just Futures will be expected to design and teach courses that align with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Design Lab, and the Indigenous Futures Institute programs.

In particular, UC San Diego Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) seeks to recruit diverse faculty in a wide range of ECE research disciplines that are related but not limited to Sustainable Computing, Cyber-Physical Systems, Mixed Physical-Digital Interactions, Machine Learning for Social Justice and Fairness, System Design, and Design Automation. Scholars should engage major societal issues concerning Indigenous, Black, Hispanic and migrant communities. This will be a broad search, so all relevant Electrical and Computer Engineering areas will be considered.

The required job duties include developing an excellent research program, teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, and service activities. Faculty in the department benefit from the presence of numerous major research centers, including the Center for Wireless Communications (CWC), the Qualcomm Institute (QI), the Center for Machine Integrated Computing & Security (MICS), the Center for Wearable Sensors (CWS), the Center for Information Theory and Applications (ITA), the Center for Memory Recording Research (CMRR), the Center for Networked Systems (CNS), the Contextual Robotics Institute (CRI), and the Power Management Integration Center (PMIC) which provide unique opportunities and resources.

We encourage candidates to send applications as soon as possible. Review of applications will commence on January 29, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications in conformance with University of California policies.
