DUKE UNIVERSITY

The Divinity School

Faculty Director, Office of Black Church Studies

Duke University Divinity School seeks a Director for the Office of Black Church Studies (OBCS), effective July 1, 2023.  The position is for a regular-rank member of the Divinity School faculty with the possibility of tenure. The Director of the Office of Black Church Studies will provide intellectual and strategic leadership by pursuing a scholarly agenda, guiding the overarching planning and program development of the Office, supporting student formation, organizing events and lectures, partnering with other Divinity School houses of studies and centers, and fostering and strengthening connections with the wider Duke University and Durham communities. The Director will also teach in residential and hybrid programs, offering two courses per year that engage the intersection of Black Church Studies with at least one other scholarly field represented in the Divinity School. Faculty rank and salary will be set according to qualifications and experience. A Ph.D., Th.D., or the equivalent is requisite. The M.Div. degree or equivalent is strongly desirable, as is ordained ministerial experience within the black church.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and names of three persons from whom letters of reference may be obtained. Women, ethnic minorities, and persons from the Methodist/Wesleyan tradition are strongly encouraged to apply. Nominations and applications should be sent to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/24011. Review of applications and nominations will begin January 1, 2023.
