Assistant Professor (2 Positions), Public Health, Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The School of Public Health at the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks two Assistant Professors (tenure-track) who specialize in artificial intelligence (AI) as it applies to public health. These positions can be in any of the school’s four departments: Biomedical Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Policy, Management, & Behavior. We are interested in candidates who apply Artificial Intelligence-related methods (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing) to, but not limited to, the following:

 

  • population health questions, and who are developing a research program that uses these approaches as a complement to traditional epidemiologic methods in order to enhance our understanding of complex exposures and health outcomes; infectious disease diagnostics, antibacterial drug development, microbial genomics, structural biology, or cancer biology; challenges in health care and population health management, including, but not limited to improving health equity and health care delivery, and decision-making for public health policy, programs, and practice; connections between environmental exposures (biological, chemical, physical and psychological) and health outcomes and toxicological influences on public health.

 

 

We are especially interested in candidates who address health equity, health disparities, and/or the impacts of climate change in their work. The new hire will be a member of the UAlbany AI Institute. The successful candidate will provide evidence of expertise in AI and address how AI is integral to their research program.

 

The School of Public Health, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, offers BS, MPH, MS, DrPH, and Ph.D. degrees, and has a unique partnership with the New York State Department of Health, including the Wadsworth Labs, which facilitates access to the state’s population-based registries and surveillance systems. The school also has strong relationships with local insurers, hospitals, and non-profit organizations. Faculty have opportunities to engage in school and university research and programmatic centers, including the Center for Collaborative HIV Research in Practice and Policy, the Maternal and Child Health Program, the Center for Global Health, the Center for Health Workforce Studies, the Center for Social and Demographic Analysis, the Institute for Social and Health Equity, the Cancer Research Center and RNA Institute, among others. The University at Albany is a Carnegie Foundation-designated publicly engaged university with signature strengths across campus in health equity and minority health disparities, emergency preparedness, climate and atmospheric science, and public affairs and policy, providing a rich interdisciplinary environment for public health science research and collaboration.

 

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain scholarly research, contribute to the expansion of the public health teaching mission, especially as it relates to AI, mentor students, and actively engage in university and community service.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
