                                    Teaching Professor (all ranks) in Aviation Programs (Air Transportation Management)

Location: Arizona State University – Polytechnic Campus

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School (TPS) seeks applicants for a faculty teaching professor (all ranks) position in TPS’ Aviation programs.  Appointments may be at Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or (Full) Teaching Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2023.  This position is non-tenure track appointment with a fixed-term academic year contract. It is anticipated that the contract will be renewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and the needs of the unit.

The Air Transportation Management program is one of the outstanding programs on the ASU Polytechnic campus, which is conveniently located adjacent to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The Air Transportation Management program curriculum provides students with the skills needed for leadership positions in a wide variety of technically related areas of the commercial aviation industry. Students learn about airport planning and general aviation operations management for air carriers and airports. The air transportation management concentration, under the BS in aeronautical management technology, prepares students for leadership positions in the on-ground areas of the aviation industry, including management of air carriers or airports, airport planning or general aviation operations. This major is eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program at the following location: Polytechnic campus. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses as assigned such as: Aviation Security; Air Transportation; Air Traffic Control; General Aviation Operations and Management; Airport Management/Planning; Aviation Safety and Human Factors; and, Airline Administration.  Also, to serve on Master’s thesis committees; on program, school, university committees as assigned; and, as faculty advisor for selected student clubs.

The Polytechnic School seeks candidates who have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning, will contribute to our academic programs, will promote transdisciplinary teaching, and help the University to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, and valuing entrepreneurship.  Faculty members in the Fulton Schools of Engineering are expected to adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s degree in engineering, aviation, or a related field by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience in aviation industry
  • Commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Earned Doctorate or PhD degree in engineering, aviation, or a related field
  • Demonstrated evidence in airline management or air traffic control
  • Extensive aviation industry experience
  • Evidence of excellence in university teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to teaching
