For over forty (40) years, Fine Arts at Santa Fe College continues to provide first-class enrichment and entertainment community wide in Dance, Music, Visual Arts and Theatre. The Theater Program within Fine Arts boast twenty (20) plus years of exceptional work in the theater arts, covering a wide range of mixed media, performance genres, as well as technical/design styles. Rated top-notch by the Florida Community College Activities Association Theatre Division and the American College Theater Festival, the Theatre Program at Santa Fe College is seeking a month (9) Assistant Professor to promote and encourage student success in theater arts through quality instruction and real-world learning experiences.

The Assistant Professor, Theatre is a collaborative artist and educator who has experience in a variety of contemporary performance pedagogies and practice who can teach more than one recognized acting technique. Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor of Theatre will develop, prepare, and teach a variety of theatrical concepts, acting techniques, performance design methodologies and technologies, as well as theatrical performance management and production direction. Teaching assignments for the Assistant Professor, Theatre may include the following: Introduction to Theatre, Acting Fundamentals, Acting I, Performance, and/or Scene Design. This position is expected to oversee and direct productions, as well as assist with other Fine Arts productions involving acting throughout the academic year in conjunction with other Fine Arts Faculty and the student players. Faculty may be assigned to SF’s main Northwest campus or housed at any of the College’s six educational centers. Course offerings within the Fine Arts-Theatre may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats.  Santa Fe College full-time Theatre faculty have a primary nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the fall and 15 credit hours in the spring; summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Plan, organize, and deliver all levels of acting coursework in didactic, classroom and/or stage settings to promote student success within a creative, collaborative community college environment.
  • Support and promote the mission of the Fine Arts Department and SF which centers on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that remains current with national collegiate theatre standards and cultivates the mastery of course content.
  • Collaborate to produce and coordinate all aspects of theatrical productions, annually serving as the director of a musical and/or play and assisting with theatre productions as needed. 
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance and student learning outcomes.
  • Conduct advising for Theatre Program students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and college committee work.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Fine Arts

 

Qualifications

 

Required:  Master’s degree in Theater (MFA) or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Theater.

Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  Proven excellence in the directing of musicals and/or other theatrical productions are preferred, as is relevant teaching experience within a community college setting.
