Teaching Assistant Professor and Language Program Director in German
The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (http://gsll.unc.edu) is seeking a superior and innovative instructor in German to begin on July 1, 2023. This is a renewable fixed-term, non-tenure-track lectureship in German with an initial three-year appointment.
A doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in German Studies or closely related field is required by July 1, 2023, as is native or near-native proficiency in German and English. Area of specialization in German is open, although a strong background in foreign language pedagogy, web-based instructional technologies, or second language acquisition is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will teach five courses a year, including all levels of the undergraduate language curriculum (from novice to advanced content-based instruction); as Language Program Director the teaching assistant professor will help train and mentor graduate student instructors, assist with the administration of the language program, develop and serve as advisor for extracurricular activities, and perform service for the department, other units in the University, and for the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies.
