Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities


The Office of Cancer Research Training and Education at the Massey Cancer Center is seeking a Coordinator to leverage health system/university assets to address social determinants of health, increase interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and interprofessional education, scholarship and practice among arts, humanities and sciences, and integrate Academic, Research, and Clinical Missions to advance human health through interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

In support of Massey’s Office of Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC), the general responsibilities of this role are as follows:
  • Coordinate the implementation for all of Massey’s Office of CRTEC programs (currently six), including curriculum development, participant recruitment, program execution and evaluation, and management of the program’s and office financials
  • Collaborate with other VCU departments/centers to incorporate cancer specific training and education opportunities into their curriculum
  • Work with the MCC Research Support team to facilitate the inclusion of students and trainees into 3-4 scientific events per year, including a state-wide research conference for Virginia students and trainees (hosted by Massey every other year)
  • Assist the Associate Director for CRTEC in developing and implementing the strategies linked to the CRTEC goals within the Massey Cancer Center’s 2021-2025 Research Strategic Plan
  • Participate in CRTEC evaluation processes and manage a database that tracks the career progressions for MCC trainees/students
  • Coordinate the convening of the faculty level Research Training and Education Advisory Committee quarterly and a student/trainee-level advisory committee every six months
Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Massey Cancer Center supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. The candidate will demonstrate experience that shows their commitment to fostering such an environment.
  • An understanding and working knowledge of academic educational and training programming is preferred, ideally in a health science campus setting
  • Excellent oral and written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner; demonstrate initiative and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to the smallest detail
  • Knowledge of University systems as well as general administrative functions including travel and complex meeting planning in an academic medical research or higher education environment
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Office software programs. Ability to develop and maintain presentations and executive correspondences.
  • Significant experience in office workflow management at the senior level with excellent organizational skills and the ability to change priorities quickly and often with little or no disruption to operations
  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic health sciences environment working for multiple managers or a senior administrator, or equivalent
  • Experience with planning, executing and evaluating programs, meetings and conferences successfully
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and ability to work toward common goals as part of an administrative team
  • Experience developing and managing project budgets and tracking expenditures
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments with competing deadlines
  • Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility and confidentiality.
Preferred Hiring Standards

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field desired
  • Experience in a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center and working knowledge of Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) administrative guidelines, activities and responsibilities, preferred
  • Proven database management skills including the ability to create and query reports. Experience in REDCap ideal.
  • Experience assisting in grant writing and training grant submissions is highly desirable.
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience, Starting at $54,200
