Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring an experienced Career Counselor to support the Career Services Team. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

Description:

The Career Counselor offers individual career advising and the tools necessary to assist students and alumni with internship, co-op, research, graduate school and full time job searches with a focus on creating successful career outcomes. The Career Counselor is responsible for developing positive relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, parents, and other customer service constituents. A Career Counselor may serve in one or more of the following roles; Communications coordinator, Website content, undergraduate experience coordinator, internship for credit tracking, career readiness and preparation programming, assisting with employer partnerships, employer outreach, on campus company scheduling, career expo organization, and being assigned as an individual college manager representing the office.
  • Serve as a member of the Career Services team and executes the goals and strategies laid out by the department and Executive Director.

  • Educate and provide the tools and professional advice necessary to create successful career outcomes for students and alumni

  • Assist students on an individual basis with their career-related needs and goals while delivering ongoing support through their decision making process. Topics will include but not limited to: resume, cover letter and portfolio development, creating a career readiness plan, job search strategies, offering job interview assistance, reviewing and assisting with negotiating job offers, and helping them navigate the overall job search process.

  • Track, compile and maintain data on students and employers in preparation for department analytics and data reporting for both internal and external audiences. Suggest mechanisms for improved tracking and reporting.

  • Assist with the execution and development of events, workshops, and presentations. Events include but are not limited to: soft skills workshops, diversity events, Industry Expos, freshman move-in weekend, Oktoberwest, Parents Weekend, Limited evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Work in collaboration with the Director to develop industry outreach and partnerships to bring opportunity to our students.

  • Help develop and maintain advertising, marketing information for electronic monitors in the STEM building, along with printed material for office advertising to students.

  • Serve as a career services liaison to other departments.

  • Serve on various committees as assigned.

  • Occasional evening and weekend office coverage and event attendance as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required, Masters preferred.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:
  • Minimum of 1-5 years experience in career development, career counseling, recruiting, Human Resources, College Admissions Programming or related transferable skills.
