THIS POSITION IS FUNDED VIA MULTIPLE GRANTS. EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTINUED FUNDING FROM GRANT PROVIDERS.


This position is located in Athens, Ohio Individual sought to support the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service’s applied research. This position supports the laboratory and field science of the Energy and Environment teams in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. The responsibilities of the laboratory manager include, but are not limited to, reviewing experimental designs for feasibility and equipment needs; scheduling equipment use according to the needs of various projects; maintaining equipment and trouble-shooting minor repairs: training students in laboratory safety and operational protocols. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, a Costech CN autoanalyzer, a Bruker GC for gas sample analysis, soil grinder, micro=beadbeater, LiCor 6400XT infrared gas analyzer, BCS walk-behind tractor, custom digestion vessels, custom gas sampling chambers, YSI datasonde, FlowTracker, HOBO probes. The laboratory manager will also be responsible for equipment use scheduling/tracking, periodic inventories, ordering consumable supplies, and updating safety operating procedures.
Primary duties include: 1. Equipment maintenance: regular equipment checks, calibration, maintenance; troubleshooting and updating components and software, sometime in consultation with manufacturers. 2. General laboratory operations and scheduling: coordinating daily schedule of supplies and equipment use, training students in standard operating procedures, ordering replacements of consumables 3. Data Analysis: summarizing and reporting data output, organizing sample output for appropriate team members and attending regular group meetings. 4. Supervisory and administrative responsibilities: Supervise students in laboratory, maintain inventory and schedule for various users of equipment, quarterly equipment inventory for the GVS per University policy The ideal candidate must have the ability work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to accomplish project goals; ability to establish and maintain collegial relationships with senior management, co-workers, project sponsors; ability to multitask as well as appropriately prioritize tasks; and the ability to accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
