This clinical faculty physician position will have a leadership role in the development and oversight of the University of Houston College of Medicine (UHCOM) elective experiences. This clinical faculty will be responsible for the development of the curricula for 3rd and 4th year medical student clinical electives. This position will also work with students who elect to engage in a research elective and develop a scholarly project. This position will also participate in the facilitation of team-based learning sessions and didactic sessions with medical students in some of the pre-clerkship medical school courses.

This clinician will also provide patient care at one of the UH affiliated clinical practices.

At this time, all faculty appointments in the College of Medicine are non-tenure track. The College of Medicine anticipates being able to make tenure track positions available for application in the future. This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Clinical Sciences Department.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

Educational Mission (70%)
• Develop the curriculum for the elective experiences and identify required clinical, research, and educational activities.
• Working with students in the development of a scholarly concentration, and completion of a scholarly project.
• Correspond with the clinical sites and on-site medical staff throughout the student experience.
• Precept medical students at a University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical location.
Direct Patient Care (30%)
• Evaluate and treat patients at the University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical practice.
• Provide input for the development of clinical protocols and guidelines for practice.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Salary and rank commensurate with academic achievements and experience.

Full-Time: 1.0 FTE

Qualifications :
  • Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification in American Board of Medical Specialties recognized specialty such as Family Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in medical education
  • Experience with inter-professional teams
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic or Chinese
