ABOUT UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Undergraduate Admissions supports outreach and recruitment strategy, admission policy and processes, and yield initiatives for domestic and international first-year, transfer, adult and non-degree students enrolling on the Athens campus and in OHIO Online programs. The Undergraduate Admissions team is comprised of more than 50 full-time staff members, including a talented recruitment team based in Athens, as well as a growing team of strategically positioned staff members in key markets throughout the U.S. and around the world. Undergraduate Admissions supports colleges, schools, and departments in the pursuit of academically specific recruitment and admission goals.

LEADERSHIP PROFILE & POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary: The Senior Assistant Director for Access and Diversity assists in the coordination and implementation of diversity outreach, recruitment, admission and yield initiatives for Undergraduate Admissions, with a focus on enrollment of students from historically disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. Reporting to the Director for Access and Diversity, this position assists in the development, implementation and assessment of recruitment strategies and tactics for diverse populations including on- and off-campus programming and events, and cultivating relationships to facilitate the development of enrollment pipelines of academically talented, diverse students for Ohio University's undergraduate programs. This position supervises associated student organizations in Undergraduate Admissions and serves as an active member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team, managing a territory and participating in admission review processes.

Through their work in this position, the Senior Assistant Director will play a critical role in OHIO's commitment to reducing barriers to education, supporting diverse students, and building a sense of belonging for all.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Diversity Outreach, Recruitment, and Yield: Assists in the planning and implementation of outreach, recruitment, admission and yield efforts directed toward students from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to students from underrepresented, first generation, low income, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds so that Ohio University can enroll an increasingly diverse student body. Collaborates with colleagues and utilizes creative and innovative approaches to maximize effectiveness of limited resources to recruit and yield students from historically disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. Works with the Director for Access and Diversity in serving as a liaison with alumni, school districts and external multicultural constituency groups to help in recruitment and admission of students from underrepresented populations so that Ohio University can achieve an increasingly diverse student body.

Relationship Management and Pipeline Development: Cultivates, develops, and nurtures strong relationships with various on- and off-campus partners for diversity initiatives including Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), school counselors and other groups supporting diversity, recruitment and enrollment of students from disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. In consultation with the Director for Access and Diversity, coordinates regularly with other Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment Management team leaders to implement college access and pipeline initiatives for middle and high school students targeting urban and rural school districts as well as community- and faith-based organizations within OHIO's primary and secondary recruiting markets.

Recruitment and Admission: Serves as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team. Represents the University both on- and off-campus to a wide variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary school personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Counsels and advises constituents on a range of admission and enrollment processes. Maintains thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions and advise constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO. Provides exceptional customer service by attending to the needs of internal and external constituents in a timely and accurate manner. Evaluates applications and supplemental materials for the purposes of making admission decisions. Conducts thorough, holistic, selective review of an applicant's candidacy. Determines necessary documentation to support an admission decision and recommend appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. Plans and implements recruitment and yield activities for an assigned territory or population. Travels around Ohio, nationally, and/or internationally as needed to participate in school visits, college fairs, and programs. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree is required by start date. Applicants with a bachelor's degree and equivalent experience will also be considered.

Minimum of 5 years related work experience.

Must have extensive knowledge and be able to serve as a subject matter expert on best practices and issues related to the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of students from diverse backgrounds. Must have demonstrated experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and an understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges with recruiting and enrolling underrepresented students.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred, but not required, qualifications include being multi-lingual; previous experience in college admissions, academic advising in higher education, college student personnel, or counseling or teaching in secondary schools.

Pay Rate: Based on extensive benchmarking data, the Senior Assistant Director for Access and Diversity position is mapped to Pay Grade CA&P 17 at OHIO, with a target hiring range of $51,281-$59,614. The exact base salary for the selected candidate will be negotiable, commensurate with education and experience, and competitive in the field within the context of similarly situated positions at public universities nationally.

OHIO and Enrollment Management proudly offers flextime in addition to flexplace, in support of our employees. While this position is based in Athens, Ohio and requires working on-campus, there is some opportunity for periodic remote workdays. Such arrangements will be negotiated at time of offer.
