Santa Barbara City College is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member position in the Art - History Program to start in Fall 2023. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population.
A full time tenure track faculty position in Art History is available effective August 2023 at Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, California. The position is open to candidates with expertise in any of the following areas: Art of the Americas, Africa, Asia or Oceania. The position will entail teaching surveys in a range of the above listed subject areas and Visual Literacy from a global perspective. Teaching modalities will include in person and online with at least half of courses taught in person and a consistent presence on campus.
Other responsibilities and opportunities include participation with fellow faculty members to maintain the academic program of the Art Department including serving as Art Department chair, participation in the shared governance of the college with committee assignments, and collaborative work on development and maintenance of the Art History program. This position offers opportunities to collaborate with our Director on exhibitions and engage students using SBCC's dedicated exhibition space,The Atkinson Gallery. This gallery is an accredited exhibition space and currently affiliated with the Getty Center's Pacific Standard Time initiatives. The college is located on the coast in close proximity to the vibrant art scene in Los Angeles.
SALARY & PERSONNEL BENEFITS:
The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track faculty member is $64,204 - $100,654 plus an earned doctoral bonus of $3,210.20. Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one-step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $128,134, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a "cafeteria style" health and welfare benefits program.

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
- Master's in art history, history of art and architecture or
visual culture/visual studies OR
- Bachelor's in art history and master's in history OR
- Master's in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history OR
- Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to all of the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required material.

The selection committee, who will recommend candidates for personal interviews at SBCC, will initially review online applications. A teaching demonstration will be required for selected applicants. After the initial interviews have been conducted, the committee will recommend the top candidates to the Superintendent/President for a final interview. The successful candidate's name will then be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval and authorization to hire. Candidates will participate primarily in remote interviews and in some instances final interviews may be conducted in person while observing all health and safety protocols as approved by the Santa Barbara County Health Department.
