The University of Mobile seeks a Dean for its renowned Alabama School of the Arts (ASOTA). This position offers an exciting opportunity to join the academic leadership team of a leading Christ-centered academic community providing comprehensive liberal arts and professional programs. The start date is negotiable, but ideally the Dean will begin by July 2023. With more than 150 undergraduate and graduate students, the Alabama School of the Arts is the premier arts school of the Southeast. It houses UM’s Departments of Music, Theatre, and Worship Leadership & Technology, offering a total of 19 undergraduate degree programs, four masters-level degree programs, and UM’s Doctor of Musical Arts program. Class sizes are small, and all students work directly with the School’s accomplished and dedicated faculty. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the Alabama School of the Arts is a member of the Academic Affairs Committee, working collaboratively with Deans in the areas of healthcare, business, education, Christian studies, the arts and sciences to assure and increase the effectiveness of the academic programs.
Among the requirements for the ASOTA Dean are an earned terminal degree from an accredited institution; leadership and administrative experience in higher education at the chair level (or equivalent) or higher; a record of teaching and scholarship appropriate for the appointment to tenured professor in a discipline within the Alabama School of the Arts; and experience in modeling strategies to support and empower students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should have accreditation experience (SACSCOC and NASM), academic strategic planning and budgeting, and community relationship building.
