Job Details

Assistant State Director will manage the newly formed Western Region of the SBDC comprised of 51 counties in Western Kansas.  The Assistant State Director will work closely with the state director to increase client activity in the region. 

 

Reports to: the State Director, Kansas Small Business Development Center

 

Summary Objectives & Outcomes:

  • Increase the number of clients in the Western Region
  • Meet with regional chamber of commerce personnel, economic development personnel, government, and private industry groups to further the objectives of the state KSBDC program.
  • Participate in “circuit-rider” program to bring SBDC services to individuals located in the fifty-one-county service area of the Western Region SBDC. 
  • May participate in fundraising efforts for SBDC Western Region.
  • Manage various SBDC regional project aspects including:
    • Documentation and Reports Necessary to Assure Compliance of Grant Objectives and Regulations related to Financial Oversight
    • Manage contracts for sub-centers within the region
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration within the region
  • Assure consistency of services provided across the region
  • Raise SBDC awareness within the Western region
  • Improve customer satisfaction survey participation and ratings

 

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Business or equivalent, MBA or significant business/economic development experience preferred
  • Project Management Education/Experience a plus
  • Business Analytics Education/Experience a plus
  • Communication
    • Demonstrates Strong Emotional Intelligence
    • Experience Working in a remote, rural environment
  • Consulting Experience or Strong Customer Management Experience
  • Experience Managing Performance Metrics and Outcomes
    • Contract Compliance
    • Milestone Achievement and Recording Accounting and financial reporting standards/processes
    • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Supervisory
    • Provides Work Guidance to Project Personnel
    • Supervises Student/Temp Part Time employees
  • Knowledge of rural small business obstacles and opportunities especially in agricultural areas preferred

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Administer funding allocation related to Western Region projects and other grant projects as directed
  • Operational and budget management of a project budget
  • Administer sub-grant funding to local sub-centers
  • Ensure compliance with all federal regulations related to SBA and other grants as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with Kansas SBDC operations
  • Time and effort tracking/reporting
  • Conflict of interest standards and compliance.
  • Client confidentiality
  • Assess impact of Kansas SBDC Western region during the critical rebuilding phase
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to create a sustainable model for the Western region

 

Performance Management

  • Operational processes outcomes, goals, performance tracking/reporting
  • Key results for region
    • Increase in number of clients served
    • Increase in market share percentage for region and individual counties
    • Increase in number of hours counseling
  • Financial monitoring of projects for budget and regulatory compliance

 

Location:

  • Position will be physically located in Hays Kansas in the offices of the SBDC
  • Hybrid remote work environment negotiable
