Kean University is a world-class, vibrant and diverse institution offering more than 50 undergraduate majors, 60-plus graduate options and six doctoral degree programs. Kean distinguishes itself through excellence in academics, strategic investments in both research and cultural facilities and initiatives and a commitment to the success of every student. Dedicated to preparing students for rewarding careers, lifelong learning and fulfilling lives, Kean offers a broad range of disciplines, the expertise of a diverse and world-savvy faculty and a student-centered learning environment and campus community. The University sits on three adjoining campus sites in Union County, New Jersey covering 180 acres, two miles from Newark Liberty International Airport and thirty minutes from New York City, with additional locations in Ocean County, New Jersey – Kean Ocean and Jefferson Township, New Jersey – Kean Skylands. Kean University also operates a unique, additional location in Wenzhou, China.
The Equity in Action Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to increase the diversity of Kean University’s faculty. Kean seeks to attract promising researchers, clinicians, and educators from different backgrounds, races, ethnic groups, and other diverse populations whose life experiences, research experiences, and employment backgrounds will contribute significantly to Kean’s academic mission and enhance the environment and learning opportunities for all Kean students.
Kean is seeking scholars who reflect the rich diversity of our student body, whether based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, gender, neurodiversity, disability, or otherwise. The fellowship seeks to expand access to academia, and promote a sense of belonging for all.
Fellowships may be awarded for postdoctoral training in any field of study at Kean. Successful candidates will receive a two-year Lecturer appointment with a reduced course load designed to provide ample opportunities for highly mentored scholarly and research training.
For the third cohort of Equity in Action fellows, we are specifically seeking:
· Black/African-American scholars;
· Hispanic/Latinx/Latine/Chicanx scholars; and
· Male, transgender male, male-identifying, nonbinary, or genderqueer scholars.
These priorities are based on data analysis, student feedback, self-reflection, and holistic needs assessments by each college, program, and department. Despite these priority areas, all outstanding scholars are encouraged to apply.
For the 2023-2024 Academic Year, Kean seeks applications from scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines to serve as fellows in any of the University's current academic programs. Applicants must have earned a terminal degree by July 1, 2023 in order to be eligible for the fellowship.
Consistent with the University’s current labor agreement, fellowship appointments are for a single, non-renewable two-year period. Fellows demonstrating superior performance will be given priority consideration for appointment to a tenure-track faculty position at Kean at the close of the fellowship period.
Fellows for the 2023-2024 Academic Year will receive an annual salary starting at approximately $69,098. Additionally, each fellow will receive an annual stipend to support their scholarship and related academic pursuits. A comprehensive benefits package is included. Fellows are covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and may have access to additional benefits through their union. Faculty housing may be available to fellows to rent, depending on availability.
Please submit your curriculum vitae. In addition, all applicants are required to complete this Google Form to include supplemental information for their application. Official transcripts are required before appointment.
Applications will be accepted and reviewed on an on-going basis through March 1, 2023. Interviews and offers will be made through May 1, 2023. Start dates will be late August to early September, 2023. The University’s Equity in Action Fellowship Advisory Committee will determine the distribution of fellows across academic programs based on strength of individual applications, the composition of the applicant pool, and ongoing assessment of institutional need.
