Located in beautiful DeLand, Florida, Stetson University is searching for a visionary dean to join its duPont-Ball Library community in its mission to advance teaching and lifelong learning, collaboration, and innovation through library services, information resources, technologies, and facilities.

Position: Stetson University seeks a bold, visionary leader capable of advancing the quality and national reputation of Stetson University, as well as elevating academic excellence of each academic unit through partnership and programming.  The dean is responsible for strategic planning and budgets; hiring exceptional faculty and staff; pursuing fundraising and outreach activities; and fostering a climate of excellence and connectedness between the school, the other academic and non-academic units, and the rest of the university, including a relationship with its College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. Working directly with the provost, the academic deans, and other university leaders, the dean of the duPont-Ball Library will participate directly in defining and promoting Stetson’s mission, values, and areas of distinction.

Qualifications: The Dean of the Library will demonstrate significant successful leadership experience, a commitment to the university’s mission and values, and the ability to cultivate productive relationships in support of the library’s strategic priorities. An ALA-accredited MLIS or the equivalent degree and at least seven years of progressive experience in multiple phases of academic library leadership and senior administration within an academic setting are required.  Applicants should hold the academic credentials and standing required for tenure at Stetson University and the rank of professor at Stetson University, including a record of scholarship and leadership in academic libraries.

The University:  Stetson is one of the top regional comprehensive institutions in the nation and is on a path to greater achievement and distinctiveness as a student-centered institution. Stetson has made strategic investments in academics and student success to further establish the university as an influential force in educating future leaders. The dean will join a leadership team that is defining a bold new chapter for the institution, and the duPont-Ball Library will be critical in this effort.

In July 2020, Stetson welcomed its 10th president, Dr. Christopher F. Roellke, who brings a depth of success in academic preparation, student support, development and leadership that is already resounding to Stetson as it navigates the pandemic, and plans for the post-pandemic, environment in higher education.  In the last decade, Stetson has strengthened the mission and financial position of the university while challenging the status quo and advancing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and student success. Stetson University is ranked #4 in the South by U.S. News & World Report as a top-tier regional university with a long-standing commitment to liberal arts undergraduate education, outstanding professional graduate programs, and diversity and inclusion.

To Apply: Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applicant materials should be received by January 30, 2023. Candidates should provide, as three separate documents, a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile, and a one-page statement addressing your personal commitment to and engagement in activities that promote inclusion. These materials should be sent electronically via email to Robin Banks at librarydeansearch@stetson.edu.  See www.stetson.edu/librarydean for more information.

Stetson University, an Equal Opportunity Employer, affirms the values and goals of diversity and strongly encourages the applications of all candidates, including women and candidates from historically under-represented groups.
