Success Coach, College Connect Experience (Grant Funded)

Position reports to Director, College Connection Experience

FLSA Status: Exempt

This position is open until filled

Location: Pottstown Campus

*This position is grant-funded with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2024

This position requires the candidate to obtain the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances prior to their start date

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Success Coach empowers students, aids them in leveraging their strengths to achieve self-defined success as a participant in the grant-funded College Connection Experience program.  As a member of the CCE Team, the Success Coach educates and guides students in developing skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college including goal setting, time management, effective learning strategies, academic motivation, self-advocacy, and accountability. The Success Coach refers students to appropriate resources, monitors students’ academic progress, and collaborates with internal partners to develop and implements learning in financial aid/financial literacy, career development, and on topics identified as barriers to completion. The Success Coach works with students in one-on-one sessions, each session individualized based on the needs and goals of each unique student. The Success Coach also develops and facilitates group presentations/workshops to individual cohorts or the entire population of CCE students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for an assigned group of students by providing consistent, accurate, and timely awareness and planning information related to a student’s plan to pay for college, options for transferring to a 4-yr institution, and aspects of key career planning
  • Engage/support CCE students with a blend of Appreciative, Developmental and Intrusive Coaching models.
  • Maintain weekly contact with the Title III CCE Project Director
  • Promote a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, success, and completion
  • Support the students’ completion of CCE application, registration of CCE designated courses/sections and assessments that may include orientation, pre/mid/end of semester and end of year evaluations and other assessment measures.
  • Present a comprehensive orientation program to engage new students
  • Assist students with goal-setting and providing continuous communication and follow-up to maximize goal attainment
  • Collaborate with faculty/staff on student academic concerns to solve issues that arise with respect to progress on objectives and attendance
  • Co-guide students to appropriate interventions, as needed
  • Monitor academic reporting systems for early alert to students’ performance and academic progress risk
  • Communicate with students through a variety of communication channels
  • Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning
  • Provide administrative support to the CCE Project Director, faculty, and Success Coaches
  • Monitor student progress toward goals
  • Conduct follow-up with program participants, advise as needed
  • Monitor student assessment scores and attendance
  • Maintain coaching notes on Starfish appropriately documenting issues, outcomes, referrals, etc and maintain Time and Effort log. with appropriate documentation to track contact hours, issues, and outcomes
  • Represent CCE at Montco special program info tables and in meeting with or presentations for local high school career/college/guidance counselors for the purpose of building awareness of the CCE Program

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Education/Training/Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human services or related field required
  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, human services or related field preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience providing case management services to at-risk students/clients required. Community College experience preferred

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve project objectives
  • Maintain a high level of sensitivity, discretion, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal, effective communication, both written and oral, with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community college environment
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and effectively organize and manage time and tasks   
  • Maturity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic are prerequisites for this position.
