Job Summary
The career strategist coordinates and supervises career planning programs for designated areas, and also uses career assessment tools to provide individual and group career coaching sessions.
This position also delivers trainings and seminars to students in classroom settings, residence halls and student organizations.

Job Responsibilities and Execution
- Uses career development theory
- Works with students to create a career development plan, which includes: career assessment; definition of career and internship goals; major selection; job search approach; resume preparation; interview skills; and graduate/professional school application process
- Possesses and maintains up-to-date knowledge about career fields
- Provides advice and tools to assist students in achieving their career goals
- Refers students to career events, other staff and/or faculty members and resources as appropriate
- Increases Lindenwood students’ visibility in the employment community
- Plans and develops programs, workshops and services in cooperation with the Career Center and other departments’ staff; provides evaluations, recommendations and assistance toward improvements
- Designs and conducts thematic/career opportunity workshops as requested
- Develops visual aids, handouts and presentation materials for workshops
- Coordinates major projects, which may include career fairs, on-campus interviews and information tables
- Assists in the collection, tabulation and analysis of outcomes data for students and other stakeholders
- Recruits employers to participate in job announcements, career fairs, on-campus recruitment and special events
- Increases student participation in career fairs, workshops and interview sessions through the online career management system and other means
- Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
- Fills in for other Career Development team members as needed
- Serves on campus or university committees as required
- Participates as a team member in activities related to the department’s goals and objectives
- Communicates with the appropriate deans, faculty, staff and student groups/organizations to increase visibility and knowledge of Career Center programs
- Works with faculty and staff to develop and refine workshop content
- Collects workshop evaluations and sign-in lists
- Fields employers’ questions regarding job listings, career events and online career management database registration
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree in student services, human resources, marketing or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ related career services and/or counseling experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Ability to advise college students in areas of career planning and academic development
- Demonstrated ability to utilize assessment instruments, including computerized career assessment tools
- Highly motivated with ability to take initiative
- Strong computer skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Team oriented with excellent coaching skills
- Organized and detail oriented
- General office setting
- Ability to work remotely
- Weekend and evening work possible
- Ability to work effectively at a computer for up to eight hours daily
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
- Adequately mobile to traverse campus
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds overhead
