Social Media & Web Content Specialist


  • This hive is always buzzing, and Randolph-Macon College is looking for a creative marketer who can capture its energy online! Join an energetic team of Yellow Jacket marketing professionals responsible for the college’s overall brand marketing, recruitment marketing, and communications. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications, this new role will be responsible for the institution’s primary social media channels as well as alumni social media channels and serve as “captain” for the network of other social media managers who develop content for other accounts throughout the College. This position will help development web content such as a news articles and maintain key pages of the College’s website, and generally help the College foster community and connect to many stakeholders, including prospective students engaging with the College for the first time. Successful candidates will be excellent writers with a strong design aesthetic, exceptional judgement, and demonstrated experience in/persistent curiosity for what’s new in social media.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate with marketing colleagues to develop digital assets that engage users and meet brand standards, reflecting an authentic experience that helps advance the brand of R-MC.
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy and calendar for social media content on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other channels, as strategically appropriate.
  • Grow the College’s online community with new followers, increased engagement, and a focus on conversion metrics that meet the College’s strategic goals; measure and report regularly on these metrics and others, and continually adjust the strategy with data-driven decisions.
  • Partner with other marketing team members to implement an integrated digital marketing strategy, including web content, apps, social media communication, and recommendations for opportunities to syndicate content to a wider audience through paid channels.
  • Actively monitor, manage, and foster activity on the College’s various social media channels and in digital media overall to provide excellent customer service, cultivate community, and ensure the institution’s reputation online.
  • Develop and regularly engage a community of campus staff who manage social media accounts for various departments; This effort should include governance/administration of all passwords, coordinating content opportunities, sharing best practices, ensuring brand consistency, and increasing message efficiency.
    1. This role will serve as an advisor/back-up owner for all channels and develop governance processes and policies for social media accounts associated with the college.
  • Own the future by staying on top of social media, strategy and digital trends, tools, measurements, new channels, and potential vulnerabilities.
Experience and Skill Sets:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, however, will consider related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Prior experience in content development, social media required; Experience with graphic design and video production is a plus.
  • Experience influencing a wider community to unite around a vision and shared goals.
  • Excellent written communication, proofing and grammatical skills based on a consistent brand standard (i.e. AP style, or a proprietary style guide).
  • Strong design aesthetic, with awareness of photography, videography, and simple design tools to ensure brand consistency and contemporary appeal; Experience with the Adobe suite is considered a plus.
  • Digital-savvy, and experience tracking and onboarding new tools to ensure the college is using the latest technologies; Experience using a CMS and social media publishing tool is a plus.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and planning skills, and excellent follow-through.
  • Excellent judgement and upward communication.
  • Excellent attitude and work ethic; Flexibility with changing priorities and assignments; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
