The Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a dynamic center encompassing a diverse array of interdisciplinary investigators that span the schools of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Law. Our state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified research and clinical building houses 25 of our 65 center faculty members. Center faculty have obtained more than $200 million dollars in grant and foundation funding for their research programs. Our programs include undergraduate and graduate student training programs funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored T32 graduate student training grants. The SCRC also offers state-of-the-art core facilities and shared equipment. The SCRC further supports an active community education program that strives to increase public awareness and understanding of stem cell science and regenerative medicine, in conjunction with education of the next generation of leaders in stem cell science.

The SCRC seeks to appoint an Academic Coordinator to collaboratively envision, plan, implement, evaluate, and operate key education and outreach programs with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders of our unit, with the goal of enhancing the overall impact of our collective research and education programs. Under the direction of the SCRC Director and CAO, and in close collaboration with multiple grant awardees (PD/PI), the incumbent will manage all educational and outreach programs for the Center, including serving as the training coordinator responsible for the continued development, implementation, and management of the NIH-funded T32 and CIRM EDUC4, EDUC5, and BRIDGES grants, as well as new certificate programs focused on clinical research with cell and gene therapies, and good manufacturing process principles, each expected to enroll a minimum of 2 cohorts of 5 trainees per year. The ideal candidate will also be qualified to be responsible for development, implementation, and launch of a new Master's program in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Finally, the incumbent will lead the planning and organization of SCRC educational and outreach events as well as aspects of SCRC external engagement including activities designed to stimulate and steward community philanthropy. The incumbent will be expected to work with faculty to identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to support SCRC educational initiatives and will serve as a collaborator and point of contact for SCRC faculty on outreach-based projects or outreach components of projects.

Primary responsibility for the coordination of SCRC education and outreach programs, including:

· Academic program planning and development

· Assessment of programmatic and stakeholder needs, including surveys, interviews, establishment, analysis and tracking of metrics and deliverables

· Development of proposals for extramural funding and identification of support resources

· Coordination of existing programs across the SCRC with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)

· Coordination of patient and healthcare engagement, and community outreach and education programming across SCRC training programs

· Supervision and leadership of 1-2 FTE staff in support of education and outreach programming, as well as a trainee-volunteer program
