Job Description Summary

The Community Engagement & Instruction Librarian engages in information literacy instruction and outreach focusing on student learning and success for first-year, first-generation college students, and tutor supported courses. The Community Engagement and Instruction librarian will work collaboratively with librarians and library staff to develop programs and events based on student interest, best practices, and data-informed decision making, as well as coordinate library participation in events. The librarian works to develop strategies for programming and engagement and stays abreast of 21st century reading trends, student engagement, and research practices, popular authors, as well as book series to be added to the library. Provides in-person and virtual reference and research assistance to patrons and participates in collection development and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An ALA -accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science with library experience.
  • Familiarity with Primo VE, Libguides, and other Springshare products is preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years increasingly responsible academic library experience
  • Evidence of library student engagement activities
  • Excellent technical and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with both Mac and Windows platforms is preferred.
  • Must have experience working with library and office equipment.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting general computer issues preferred.
  • Familiarity with foundational undergraduate coursework including writing, reading, digital technology, and communication.
  • Knowledge of current trends in academic librarianship related to research, instruction, and student engagement
  • Knowledge of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

  • Plans and coordinates special programs and events.
  • Plans and executes social media marketing, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Plans and executes community partnerships.
  • Plans and executes library services focus group sessions.
  • Documents and reports statistics and assessment measures

  • Teach course-integrated information literacy sessions to students.
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide advanced library research instruction for students in discipline specific courses.
  • Coordinates with the Instruction Librarian to ensure that each student receives comparable instruction.

  • Maintain knowledge of research resources, current trends and best practices in library reference services.
  • Investigate new ideas and innovation in reference services.
  • Provide reference assistance through telephone, email, online chat, and in-person.

  • Participates in the library’s instruction and liaison programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions
