Assistant Professor of Voice

Summary of Responsibilities

Teach, advise, and recruit undergraduate and graduate vocal majors (Voice/Opera Performance, Music Education, Musical Theatre). Maintain a successful applied voice studio and sustain regional/national visibility. Fulfill faculty expectations associated with traditional university full-time tenure track appointment (teaching, scholarly/creative activity, service). Teach courses in other areas of expertise depending on departmental needs (e.g., pedagogy, opera literature, diction, etc.).

Minimum Education

Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum Experience

Demonstrated success teaching voice at the college or private studio level.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Experience and/or ability to teach related vocal coursework.
  • Ability to teach language diction courses including English, French, German, and Italian.
  • Demonstrated proficient written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficient verbal communications skills.
  • Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.

Preferred Experience

  • Significant professional performing experience.
  • Demonstrated success/proficiency teaching one or more of the following – song literature, opera literature, vocal pedagogy, and/or foreign language diction.
  • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for recruiting.

Regular Hours of Work

Varied depending upon teaching schedule.

Environmental Factors

Typical classroom/lecture hall and applied music studio environments.
