Position Summary
The Department of Geology , University at Buffalo, The State University of New York seeks to hire 2 Assistant Teaching Professors (official state title: Clinical Assistant Professor 12) who are passionate about teaching and eager to join a growing Department striving to increase diversity in the geosciences. The successful candidates will teach 4 courses per semester or engage in equivalent non-instructional duties, such as service or administrative responsibilities associated with the Department’s educational programs; one instructor will be responsible for overseeing our expanding undergraduate introductory lab course. Successful candidates will teach classes related to their areas of research in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, ensuring that our core undergraduate degree requirements are being met. Opportunities (depending on interest and aptitude) include advancing pedagogy and scholarship through attendance at professional meetings and mentoring student research projects. These are 12-month non-tenure-track appointments that include summer teaching.
Successful candidates will have earned a PhD in Geology or a closely related field, with conferral dates no later than the start of the appointment. Demonstrated teaching ability is required, as is the ability to lead field trips for assigned courses. Post-secondary teaching experience and demonstrated computational skills. The three-year, renewable appointments can begin as soon as late May 2023 or as late as August 2023.
