The University of Washington (UW) Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is recruiting for a full-time assistant professor (without tenure by reason of funding) to join an exciting and growing Research Section to expand research in the areas of health equity, integrated behavioral health, and dementia. The UW is a recognized leader in primary care, family medicine, and rural medicine by U.S. News and World Report, in part due to the long-standing research relevance and productivity of the Department of Family Medicine’s Research Section in both primary care and rural health.

The successful applicant will execute a research program focused on health equity in primary care, with emphases in behavioral health that can include integrated behavioral health, dementia, and dissemination and implementation research related to behavioral health in primary care. This person will have doctoral training (PhD, MD or foreign equivalent) relevant to behavioral health and a track record of conducting research in health equity, integrated behavioral health and dementia, with relevant research methodology skills. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, a current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.

The faculty member will collaborate with other faculty in the department's Research Section to grow robust research in the area of health equity. The faculty member will also provide clinical services within the department’s outpatient clinical settings to patients as part of the integrated behavioral health care team.

Assistant Professors (Without Tenure) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful applicant will be in the Regular Track: Clinician Scientist/Faculty Scientist Pathway. The expected start date is May 1, 2023, or soon thereafter.

Other duties expected of the successful applicant will include mentoring, training, and supervising professional staff research scientists as well as residents, fellows, students, and/or non-research faculty, and service to the department, school, and university.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The Department of Family Medicine is committed to promoting health equity and creating an inclusive culture by building a diverse workforce and valuing each individual’s unique contributions. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, candidates with experience and interest that align with the research priorities described above who have demonstrated a commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). The Department of Family Medicine is committed to building a diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from candidates from underrepresented groups.
