In October 2020, the Kummer Institute for Student Success, Research and Economic Development was established through a transformational gift of $300 million from June and Fred Kummer, longtime benefactors of Missouri University of Science and Technology. By creating new buildings, research infrastructure, and opportunities for current and future students, the Kummer Institute will elevate Missouri S&T by cultivating technological innovation, fostering leadership and entrepreneurship, expanding academic-industry partnerships to directly address our country’s most pressing societal challenges, and creating economic growth for Missouri and beyond. The Kummer’s gift has inspired additional giving at unprecedented levels. At this pivotal time, Missouri S&T seeks to hire the Senior Development Officer for University Advancement. With a primary focus on fundraising university-wide initiatives including Kummer Institute projects, this major gift fundraiser will m eet regularly with top individual and corporate prospects and donors, with an expectation of 120 face-to-face visits annually. This individual will also be expected to spend a portion of their time on qualification and discovery of potential major donors. The individual will be expected to partner effectively with campus faculty, staff, and administrators to solicit and close major gifts in support of multi-million-dollar capital projects including the Innovation Lab, Protoplex, and Welcome Center; nationally recognized applied research centers; a newly created College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development; endowed faculty, K-12 STEM Outreach; and student scholarships and professional development programs.

Regular presence on the Rolla campus is desired, however hybrid work arrangements will be considered.

Specific responsibilities include :

Cultivation - Primarily through visits and imaginative pairings with faculty and/or administrators, draws individual and/or corporate prospects closer to the university’s priorities.

Solicitation - Arranges and guides every aspect of the solicitation process within the donor pool. Develop and deliver new proposals, retain a major donor portfolio, and travel as required.

Stewardship - Actively participate in events and/or programs associated with specialized constituents to move donors toward major gifts and enhance development efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management skills

• Experience with capital/infrastructure fundraising

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts

• Disciplined, regular use of a central database/client relationship management system to document all donor and prospect contacts to plan future work

• Strong knowledge of philanthropic practices, ethical standards, gift acceptance policies, and fund type implementation
