POSITION PURPOSE:
Within University Advancement and in conjunction with CSUB Athletics, the athletics development department identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors to CSUB Athletics.
The Associate Athletics Director of Development, under the administrative direction of the Associate Vice President for Development and in partnership with the Vice President for University Advancement and the Athletics Director, develops fundraising plans and strategies that can aid programmatic and funding priorities which support athletics initiatives. This position serves on the leadership teams for both University Advancement and CSUB Athletics and is key to maintaining strong communications between both divisions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Solicitation & Stewardship
Meet with prospects and donors to solicit and negotiate gifts
to CSUB athletics.
Write and develop one-time or multi-year gift agreements and
proposals.
Write solicitation materials for secondary gifts, end-of-year
appeal, renewals.
Develop and maintain a portfolio and moves management plan of
high net-worth individuals for major and principal gifts, fostering
positive and enduring relationships that produce reciprocal
benefits.
Oversee the phone-a-thon program, mailers, and emails.
Work with coaching staff and student-athletes with fundraising
efforts (Excellence Funds).
Manage portfolio of over 100 donors and prospects.
Meet with donors regularly to ensure gift expectations are
being met.
Plan donor events that provide stewardship opportunities.
Ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and continuing
stewardship of donors.
Provide endowment reports for all athletics endowments.
Ordering of gifts and promotional items.
Set-up, run, and teardown basketball/baseball hospitality and
chalk talks.
Oversee Roadrunner Scholarship Fund Board and its
volunteers.
Identification
Conduct prospect research to identify potential donors.
Attend community and sporting events to network and develop
relationships.
Manage database of donors. This includes updating contact
information, reviewing giving history, and relationships.
Cultivation and Engagement
Meet with prospects to identify common values and shared goals
with the purpose of identifying opportunities for engagement and
gift capacities that align with University giving priorities.
Meet with current donors to enhance partnerships and facilitate
continuous giving to the University.
Write proposals for prospects that include one-time gifts,
endowments, capital projects, legacy gifts, and gift-in-kind.
Write annual plans for fundraising initiatives. This includes
Roadrunner Scholarship Fund, capital projects, Legacy Society, and
Excellence Funds.
Serve as a CSUB advocate in the community. Stay current on
community events and prospect / donor achievements seeking creative
opportunities for engagement.
Participate in professional development organizations,
committees, boards, and meetings; travel locally and to assigned
out-of-town regions.
Staff Supervision/Leadership
Manage and lead assigned staff through facilitating environment
that motivates, empowers, and inspires commitment from employees
while sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Hire, train, evaluate, and recommend disciplinary action and/or
dismissal of staff, adhering to collective bargain agreements, in
coordination with the Executive Director of Development and Vice
President for University Advancement, as needed.
Identify and resolve issues at the peer level, taking necessary
measures to mitigate future issues.
Disaster Service Worker
All MPP employees are considered Disaster Service Workers, (CA
Gov. Code Section 3100), and are required to attend trainings and
possibly hold a position in the CSUB Emergency Operations Center
(EOC), as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – An earned baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university. Four years of experience in fundraising or external relations.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, CREDENTIALS – Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) –
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: MEDIUM WORK – up to 40% of the activities involve sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling or walking; lifting heavy weight objects limited to 50 pounds; may involve pushing and pulling objects within the weight limits.
