Job Description

The Institute of Human Development's Growing In Beauty Partnership Program (GIBPP) is seeking a social worker to provide case management and direct social work services to children birth to three and their families. This position requires travel and includes clinic and home visits. The Institute for Human Development's GIBPP is funded by the Navajo Nation's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services. GIBPP has provided early intervention specialists to help implement Part C Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) services on the Navajo Nation for 30 years.

The Institute of Human Development (IHD) is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest Institute at NAU. IHD is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences on the campus of NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona. IHD is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) emphasizing four core function areas: Research and Evaluation, Interdisciplinary Education and Training, Community Service, and Information Dissemination.

Direct Client Services - 50%
  • Listens to and works with families to define, design, and implement a case management plan for their children.
  • Monitors and tracks case plans and actions through periodic follow-up with families.
  • Provides direct client services through in-person, telephone communication, telehealth services, and written communication.
  • Provides, secures, and coordinates client referrals and information and/or appointments.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains an information and referral database for client referrals.
  • Provides supportive counseling to clients.
  • Travels to family homes or off-site locations as needed to provided services.
  • Works closely with tribal entities and communities to identify children in need and to provide resources to families.
  • Provide confidential support to clients; demonstrating sensitivity and concern throughout all client/family interactions.

Community Engagement - 20%
  • Coordinates and hosts outreach events.
  • Assists in developing outreach resources to provide to clients.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains a network of community relationships with local resources to facilitate connections and services available.
  • Serves as a NAU field Instructor and acts as a mentor to NAU social work student placements. Provides weekly supervision to student placements, assists students with developing a learning contract, monitors student's progress, and competes mid and final evaluations.
  • Works in multidisciplinary teams/committees.
  • Acts as a resource to assist with IHD social service needs.

Administrative Support - 15%
  • Develops guidance, along with policies and procedures for IHD's social services program.
  • Creates and updates case management plans.
  • Tracks referrals provided to clients, documenting client needs and progress within the referral database.
  • Records statistical and narrative reports.
  • Assists in addressing the mission and objectives of the IHD and NAU which may include grant writing relevant to the project.
  • Complies with HIPAA/FERPA regulations.
  • Maintain client confidence by keeping information and records confidential.

Other - 15%
  • Attends trainings.
  • Provides trainings and workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Social Work.
  • License or License Eligible as a social worker in the State of AZ.
  • Any combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Fully licensed (LCSW).
  • Experience working with tribal organizations.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $47,634. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
