Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Science

The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), Penn State Brandywine campus invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Computer Science to begin August 2022. This is a tenure-line position and will be a shared position with the Penn State Beaver and Penn State Hazleton campuses. The faculty's home campus will be Penn State Brandywine.

This faculty position will serve as Professor in Charge of the Computer Science Program consortium, across the Penn State Brandywine, Beaver and Hazleton campuses, teach lower and upper division classes using traditional, hybrid, and on-line delivery methods.

Responsibilities include:
  • Publishing research in refereed journals
  • Participating in professional organizations
  • Engaging in scholarly activities to stay current in the discipline
  • Participating in course, curriculum, and program development
  • Advising students, providing career guidance, and supervising undergraduate research projects Participating in campus, university, and community service activities


Some of the required teaching is in introductory and intermediate undergraduate courses in the area of computer science and computer engineering using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments might include courses in object-oriented programming, systems programming, computer organization and design, theory of computation, operating systems design, programming languages, and electives in the instructor's area of expertise.

Requirements: The minimum requirement for this position to be filled as an Assistant Professor is a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, or closely related fields with at least 4 years of Assistant Professorship experience. The minimum requirement for this position to be filled as an Associate Professor is a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, or closely related fields and evidence of research and publications in the area of artificial intelligence or a closely related field is expected.

Additional preferences for either rank include:
  • Evidence of commitment to and interest in active and collaborative learning
  • Instructional use of technology, experience in hybrid course delivery
  • Evidence of experience in multidisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to and ability/training in successfully advocating for diversity and values of diversity


A successful hire will demonstrate a commitment to and experience in high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment and advocacy for diversity and values of inclusion. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or weekend classes as needed.
