Responsibilities:

The Career Services Advisor is a relationship manager for an assigned caseload of MS and/or MBA students. The advisor provides career advising to students to prepare them for their job and co-op/Corporate Residency search or for advancement in their current position. This includes review and critique of resumes and cover letters, advising related to career options, identifying networking contacts, conducting mock interviews, and teaching in career management classes. Proactive and consistent contact is required to ensure the highest quality of service is provided to students. The Career Services Advisor also participates in a robust calendar of career-related and industry events. The Advisor facilitates workshops for second-year students as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Career Advising (75%)

As primary relationship manager for assigned MS, part-time, online students. Provide coaching and advising to students to support their full-time and co op searches. Provide career advising for students regarding job search skills, resumes and cover letters, career resources, career options, interview preparation, networking, and effective job search strategies. Keep students engaged with the Career Center and monitor their process. Proactively identify appropriate opportunities for all students.

Administrative and Tracking (5%)

Maintain timely and accurate records to support the entire Career Center team and the completion of both internal reporting requirements and external survey data requirements. Achievement includes monthly updates of reporting metrics and timely completion of all required survey data. Ensuring appropriate response levels is critical on all surveys. Maintain appropriate documentation of all survey data.

Training Support (10%)

Delivery of high quality career education for all students by participating in classes and facilitating scheduled break-out sessions. Design and deliver quality workshops for all students to support their full-time and co op job searches. Work with students looking for opportunities to advance their career. Participate in career-related programs, events and clinics as required.

Business Development (10%)

Develop partnerships with employers in MBA and MS-related fields. This includes cold-calling employers, conducing site visits, and attending industry events

Qualifications:

3-5 years professional experience in university career services, business-related field or related function

Bachelor's degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred

Strong interest in business and employment trends

Strong understanding of skills acquired in an MBA or MS program and their relevance in the workplace

Demonstrated skills advising students and maintaining strong relationships

Knowledge of self-assessment tools

Superior organization skills

Superior written and oral communications skills

Ability to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail

Demonstrated creativity and ability to develop new initiatives

Strong relationship skills

Strong team orientation and interpersonal effectiveness to work efficiently and creatively with MBA students, alumni and employers

Counseling experience in an academic or corporate environment preferred

Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word required, knowledge of Access desired

Ability to work with database applications

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
