Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Educational Theory and Practice in the College of Education at Montana State University Billings seeks a qualified candidate to teach graduate(Master’s Level) courses in School Counseling. Candidates must hold a terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) or be A.B.D. in Education or related field, have a Master’s degree in School Counseling, three years’ experience as a school counselor in public schools, show evidence of the development of scholarship, and demonstrate the ability to work successfully with colleagues. Typical load = 21 credit hours/AY; summer session with possible additional credit hours and additional compensation. Salary commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Terminal degree or ABD in education or related field.
  • Hold Master’s degree in School Counseling and appropriate licensure qualifications.
  • Ability to teach school counseling courses.
  • Minimum of three years as a school counselor in public schools.
  • Be familiar with supporting students in using the common core aligned state standards.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge &Skills

  • Supervision of students in field experiences.

The Successful Candidate Will Successful Candidates: The successful candidate will be expected to teach online graduate courses in school counseling, supervise student field experiences, advise graduate students, maintain a record of scholarship and serve on university and college committees. Now, Montana State University Billings’ College of Education is recognized as the regional leader in the preparation of Literacy Specialists and Special Education teachers. The Teacher Education Program at Montana State University Billings is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers and school counselors. Montana State University Billings is a comprehensive public four-year higher education institution located in Montana's largest population center, whose faculty is actively engaged in teaching, research, creative endeavors and public service. The University opened in 1927 and was initially called Eastern Montana State Normal School at Billings and was established to prepare teachers for elementary schools in eastern Montana.
