The School of Information Sciences (SIS) at Wayne State University invites applications for one tenure-track or one tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position is open to applicants from various fields including information science, information management, data science or library science. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research falls in one or more of the following areas:
- Health informatics Information and data policies Strategic management and leadership Ethics and social justice Archives and cultural heritage Social data science
While these areas of expertise are of particular interest, candidates with expertise and interest in other related topics are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the School of Information Sciences (SIS), serving as an advisor to SIS students, and providing service to SIS, the successful candidate will perform research and teach primarily under the areas of information management, information science or library science. They are expected to support one or more of the SIS degrees and certificates, including: Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM); Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS); and the Graduates Certificates in: Archival Administration, Information Management, Public Library Services to Children and Youth, and School Library Media Specialist. It is expected that the new faculty member will teach specialized courses and at least one core course from the school’s course catalog, including both graduate and undergraduate students.
The school’s curriculum is primarily delivered online, and largely asynchronous. The new faculty member is expected to have experience in successfully delivering online teaching and to participate in events and committee work that happen on campus.
SIS has approximately 385 enrolled students, mostly in the MLIS program. In addition to the degrees and certificates listed above, SIS offers a joint MLIS/MA in History, a robust practicum program, and several active student/professional groups. See further details at: sis.wayne.edu
QUALIFICATIONS, Assistant Professor rank: The ideal candidate will have exhibited the ability to produce scholarly research and publications; strong potential for visibility as a scholar on the national and international levels; evidence of professional achievement in an appropriate field; strong potential for visibility and leadership in the information profession; ability to supervise the work of graduate students; and strong potential for excellence in teaching and continued professional growth. Highly qualified candidates near completion of their Ph.D. will receive consideration.
QUALIFICATIONS, Associate Professor rank: The ideal candidate will have evidence of a consistent and demonstrated record of excellence in scholarly research and publication; visibility as a scholar on the national and international levels; excellence in professional achievement in an appropriate field; visibility and leadership in the information profession; professional recognition in the area of teaching and research in library or information science, excellence in teaching; a record of service; and experience in supervising the work of graduate students.
Salary ranges for these positions are as follows:
Assistant professor ($75,000 to $85,000) Associate professor ($90,000 to $105,000)
