Job Description Summary

Responsible for devising, planning, calendarizing, coordinating, and putting forth both general and specific work plans-schedules for the designated shift of Environmental Services staff and overseeing and leading all shift training, overseeing and checking the work of subordinate supervisors and service workers.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma.
  • One to two years of college credit, combination of education and related experience for a total of four to five years.
  • Successful completion of no less than one people handling skills course. Custodial or environmental services certification preferred, (not housekeeping).
  • Carpet cleaning certification preferred.
  • Multi-surface hard floor care program completion preferred.
  • Quality control and/or work inspection program completion preferred.
  • Unrestricted driver’s license for use in driving college vehicles in the occasional transport of both equipment and personnel supervisory experience and hands-on custodial experience in commercial settings, educational preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Computer skills; familiarization with Office 365.
  • Ability to successfully perform, teach and train custodial workers and lead custodial supervisors in the performance of their duties leading staff;
  • Ability to read, write, teach and train custodial standards and benchmarks to workers, leads and supervisor I level custodial supervisors, and to spot check, inspect, and maintain to standards work performed by service workers;
  • Ability to drive college vehicles as necessary, usually light to moderate sized cars, vans, trucks, (non- CDL natured), in transporting equipment, supplies, personnel and materials in the course of duty;
  • Ability to learn and use various work planning software programs and work order systems as needed;
  • Ability to operate, learn to use and train other in the use as new custodial equipment and machinery relative to performing custodial work, e.g. buffers, burnishers, scrubbers, extractors, wet vacs, small hand tools, scrapers, KIAVAC No-Touch Restroom Cleaning units, pressure washers, etc.

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Supervises service workers, assist with annual performance evaluation.
  • Holds regular meetings with supervisors and service workers to convey the shift work plan-schedule. Personally, leads and sets the example of leadership by directly supervising, initially, leading as needed, and initiating guidance, as needed, any new, revised, or altered guidelines, work plans-schedules, practices or techniques to the Shift.
  • Trains and guides the Environment Services Shift Supervisor.
  • Leads in how to perform the duties and responsibilities of their positions.
  • Processes shift time and attendance.
  • Keeps all time and attendance updated daily; approves or disapproves all leave for the shift.
  • Prepares written and verbal reports; e.g. supply requisitions, weekly operations report, equipment status, initiates and finalizes work orders and work request.
  • Oversees and initiates supervisory inspections; check, and lead corrective actions when and where required.
  • Ensures buildings and spaces are cleaned in accordance with the Facilities Division’s Policies and Guidelines published by Association of Physical Plant Administrators. ( APPA )
  • Oversees, initiates, directs sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping; refinishing, buffing and/or burnishing of floors.
  • Oversees, supervises, checks, and leads corrective actions where required on sweeping; mopping, disinfecting, sanitizing of restrooms, shower, and locker room and fitness areas.
  • Ensures Restroom Checklist are used, inspected and signed off with service worker’s initials and date.
  • Oversees uniforms ordering; record keeping, in/out cleaning, replacement transition, and overall handling of his/her Shift. Works closely with Facilities Management as a secondary formal contact in reporting uniform needs and issues.
  • Oversees rental mat ordering, record keeping in/out cleaning and replacement transitions.
  • Oversees drip deodorization ordering; record keeping in/out servicing and equipment transition.
  • Ensures required cleaning is performed to standards during Night Shift, if supervisory duties are applicable. Ensures required sanitizing is performed to standards during Day or Evening Shift, if supervisory duties are applicable.
  • Performs related work as required
Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs. Ability to be on feet and walk for long periods of time while inspecting, checking buildings and grounds conditions. Ability to withstand and work around varying hot to cold temps and humidity at times in order to work various campus areas.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to safely be able to work around and directly with cleaning chemicals and products without allergic reaction or hamperance to ability to perform the job.
  • Ability to be able to perform all of the required functions of the position in full as there is “no light duty” in Environmental Services
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
