Definition of Class

Within the William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education, this position is tasked with providing AOD (Alcohol and Other Drug) interventions for UM student community. The incumbent will work cooperatively with the William Magee Center team as well as interdisciplinary campus partners to provide necessary and appropriate levels of care.

Examples of Work Performed

• Develop materials and assist with department outreach to increase campus awareness of available programs (social media, on campus events, etc…)
• Develops materials and programs to educate individuals on the risks of substance use and abuse.
• Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention; intervention, and support to students presenting with high-risk behavior
• Recognize dissonant behaviors and unhealthy precursors related to substance abuse and take proactive measures
• Provide tailored and relevant feedback to encourage behavior change
• Provide wellness coaching to individuals regarding self-help resources and next steps in a continuum of care
• Coordinate care plans with interdisciplinary partners for students with high-risk behaviors
• Provide referrals to external professionals as necessary
• Evaluates wellness and prevention initiatives and strategies intended to reduce negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use
• Assists with the coordination and execution of the Collegiate Recovery Community student organization
• Serve as a liaison for students entering the collegiate recovery community

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Develop materials and implement programs intended to educate the University student body regarding substance use and appropriate behavioral changes
2. Evaluates programs, services, and resources aimed at reducing high-risk behaviors
3. Respond to the needs of the campus community regarding substance abuse intervention and support.
4. Provides direction and support through the continuum of care including working within the resources available on campus and providing appropriate escalation to off-campus professionals.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelors in an applicable field required
AND
Experience:

3 years of applicable experience

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
