Job Description
Nature and Level of Work
Perform skilled work at a journey level in the design, preparation, product selections, installation of cast lettering, engraving, stenciling, decals, vinyl and related materials in a Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) environment.
All work is subject to spot checking and inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade.
Functional contacts include co-workers, other service department employees and other university staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
Consult with clients to determine scope and/or follow specifications submitted for estimating cost, selection of proper materials, timelines and installation of signage.
Design, layout and execute interior and/or exterior signs using CADD equipment and software to include signs for campus buildings, store fronts, banners, traffic signs and engraved signs on various surfaces, glass, concrete, brick, masonry, metal, wood, paper, canvas, vinyl, etc.
Erect or remove signs as directed using ladders, scaffolding and/or personal lifting devices to aid in the installation and removal. Understand the limitations of the equipment not only for estimating and determining feasibility, but for safety.
On occasion, hand paint signs according to specifications on a wide range of surfaces.
Perform routine cleaning tasks in Sign Shop: sweep, dust and remove trash; clean and maintain tools and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary
Salary Range: $16.19 -$27.23 hourly
GGS Grade: E

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
- Extensive knowledge and skill in the operation of CADD based vinyl sign making tools, materials, equipment and software, to include font layout, plotting, plot commands, saving/recalling and other related CADD system functions.
- Four years of actual work experience in the trade, including apprentice or vocational training.
- Knowledge, creativity and skill in all phases of signage design.
- Good physical health, coordination and sufficient strength to perform some heavy lifting; ability to work on ladders, scaffolding and staging.
- A valid driver's license is necessary.
