Position Summary

Responsible for management and administration of all phases of the volleyball program, athletes, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages team of respective sport to ensure competitive performance of team and satisfactory growth and development of student-athletes.
  • Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions to advance the skill set of all team members. Coaches the team during scheduled events.
  • Maintains detailed statistics and records, evaluation reports, etc. for each student-athlete. Determines and implements strategy to obtain maximum team level and individual performance.
  • Ability to communicate with and relate well to the female student-athlete.
  • Determines competitive event schedule (may be years in advance), coordinating with teams both inside and out of the Conference.
  • Recommends participation in post-season games when invitations are received.
  • Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations, and complies with same.
  • Responsible for internal compliance and communication with assistant coaches, support staff, student-athletes, and prospects organizations, etc.
  • Supervises all contact with prospective student-athletes to avoid violations of NCAA and other recruiting rules and regulations.
  • Works closely with Academic Counselor to monitor the scholastic progress of each student-athlete. Ensures that athletes meet requirements established for athletic eligibility.
  • Responsible for team APR and GSR annual rates.
  • Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student conduct, appearance, punctuality, and other areas as appropriate.
  • Consults with the athletics trainers and physicians to determine team and individual welfare and conditioning programs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the budget of their sports program, including the completion of all necessary forms and paperwork for travel, purchases, recruiting, etc.
  • Works directly with business office on all purchasing and payments Participates in all marketing and ticket sales initiatives to include focus on revenue producing options.
  • Participates in public relations activities including newspaper, television, and radio interviews and news conferences to promote a positive image of the Athletics Department and the University.
  • Accepts speaking engagements and makes public appearances at schools, civic organizations, etc.

Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum three years coaching experience in women’s volleyball at an NCAA Division I or II institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated successful recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes particularly at the regional level (Midwest) including knowledge of AAU and high school programs [as applicable]
Additional Requirements (SPS)

Ability to communicate with and relate well to student-athletes, high school/club coaches and department support staff.
Demonstrated experience in communicating through oral, written and electronic forms.

Preferred Qualifications (SPS)
  • Master’s degree
  • Competitive experience in volleyball on the university or college level.
  • Coaching experience at the Division I college level.
