The Department of Psychology, Criminal Justice and Sociology in the School of Arts, Culture and Society at Messiah University announces a term-tenure track faculty position in Criminal Justice beginning August 2023. The successful candidate will teach, advise, and provide leadership in promoting the CJ program, and also contribute to the Sociology and Anthropology major. The position includes teaching a wide range of undergraduate criminal justice courses, and the candidate should be capable of teaching other social science courses, with a preference for sociology. Courses to be taught, consonant with expertise, may include Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections, Forensics, Victimology, Social Inequality and Research Methods. Other responsibilities include undergraduate advising, scholarship, and institutional service.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related social science discipline is required, as is some level of practical experience in Criminal Justice.  The ability to teach in other social science areas is required with sociology preferred. The ideal applicant will be a teacher-scholar, committed to undergraduate liberal arts education, collegiality, and community engagement. A demonstration of Christian commitment is required. Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.

The Program: Messiah University’s Criminal Justice and Sociology/Anthropology programs promote both a scholarly and real-world (applied) approach within the social sciences. Students learn through study abroad/service-learning experiences and internships. The Criminal Justice major attracts students interested in pursuing careers in a variety of criminal justice fields (law enforcement, corrections, law).

Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
